Win or lose, just make sure the team salutes the fans by waving their sticks in the air in a completely meaningless fashion.

Trust me on this one.

In all seriousness, I had no idea that little salute was a "thing" in other arenas. The Flyers have never done this (to my knowledge, anyway) and frankly, I'm good with them not doing it.

Did the Leafs players do that the other day?

By the way, classy move by Leaf's fans singing the US National Anthem the other day when the mic went out! Nicely done!!

The whole thing was kind of classless. Kessel saying something to Dion at the end of the game then all the players skate off. If it is a team tradition to do that..then all of a sudden you stop ( because your fans were P'D you lost. 9-2 the game before).
Grow up. They have just made it worse for themselves. I hate the Leafs and I were a Leaf fan..Kessel is one guy I would want to get rid of

When this complete non-story broke, I stupidly thought that the fans wouldn't take the bait from the media.

I was wrong. Dead wrong.

In an age where everyone feels the need to be morally outraged by the tiniest perceived slight, idiot Leafs fans have deluded themselves into thinking that they actually care about a team waiving their sticks in the air. I sincerely doubt that a single paying customer actually noticed at the time - I know I'm usually putting on my jacket and making sure I still have my keys.

On July 1st, I invite all of you into the Hockeybuzz Leafs thread, where a crushed Leafs Nation will be weepingly wondering why no UFA wants to come to Toronto.

Feel free to bring up Salute-Gate.

You will be called trolls and worse.

Because nobody likes hearing the truth.

Great sniper, but for some reason he just doesn't seem like a " team" kind of guy.

i'm going to the game tonight and i can't help but think "45 save SO from bob w/ a side of hartsy hat-trick for good measure"
bob played last night so we'll likely get the "back up who plays the best game of his career" once again

I don't know if I'd go with "classless". It seems like "classless" is hockey's version of the "c" word.

I think "silly" more accurately describes it.

I figured we'd be getting the old opposing team's back-up shut-out tonight...with that side of Hartsy you mentioned.

You are right. No UFA wants to come to Toronto. Why would you? The media is a F'N joke and I am sorry but Leaf fans ( not all) but most can be very overbearing. All fan bases have their idiots but Toronto seems to have a bundle., and you are so right about " no one wants to hear truth" I live here and I hear it every day.
There is NO WAY Stamkos will come home to play. All that talk ( media BS) earlier in summer about him looking at TO after his deal is up. He would be a gluten for punishment to play there

Bill, I haven't been one to blame Berube for much (I'm not a fan of how the roster is constituted), but if this team is still floundering going into December, do you think Hextall thinks about making a change behind the bench?

Zezel and I are having some fun in the Leafs thread right now about criticism of Kessel, and the frightening thing is it took some of Leafs nation about 30 minutes to figure out we weren't serious.

Saddest part? I started by calling Dee Karl a superblogger. My goodness, if you didn't pick up that clue, you are beyond help.
